Paddleball
The history of paddleball is one that is not well documented, but it is thought that paddleball originated from the game of handball. Since paddleball is a popular game in northern states of the United States, it is believed that paddle ball was created to relieve the pain from hitting a ball with a hand in handball. Since the weather in northern states gets much colder than it does in southern states, creating a paddle to hit the ball with has since reigned in these states. In the southern region, handball is more popular.
There is now a national paddleball association that regulates the sport and has a determined set of rules for how to play paddleball. It keeps tabs on the paddleball world record, offers news and upcoming paddleball events, and offers tips for you to learn to play paddleball. This is also a great place to start if you are looking for free paddleball games or are interested in locating a paddleball game set. If you need to shop for paddleball equipment, but you want to purchase paddle balls and paddleball racquets separately, you will have many online stores to choose from. There are two versions of paddleball that can be played, and one of these is called one wall paddleball, and the other is four wall paddleball. Just as the names imply, one version only allows the ball to be bounced off one wall, while the other allows use of four enclosed walls. You can play paddleball using singles or doubles, meaning two or four players total. The basic rules of the game are that one person will serve the ball into the wall, bouncing it toward the other person. The ball is only allowed to hit the wall once and then bounce on the ground once before it must be hit back at the wall in order for the ball to still be in play. Players are only allowed to hit the paddleball using the required paddle, and any other hit is no good. Only servers can earn points, and if a server misses a shot it is the opponent’s turn to serve. Many of the rules are similar to those of racquetball and even tennis, but the main difference is that there is a wall instead of a tennis net.
