Table Tennis Rules
The rules for table tennis are basically the same as the rules for regular tennis. Ping pong rules start with the server. According to the rules and regulations of table tennis, only a server can get a point. The ball must be served at a diagonal angle, whether the game is doubles or singles. In table tennis rules, if the ball hits the net, or goes out of bounds before hitting the diagonal square, serve switches to the opposing team. The ball can be bounced once on the server’s square before actually hitting the serve. In table tennis rules for the game, it is against the rules for the served ball to hit on the server’s side first. If this happens, the serve switches.
In the rules of table tennis, once the ball has successfully been served, the goal is to hit the ball back across the net after the first bounce. If the ball bounces a second time, does not make it across the net, or is hit out of bounds (typically off the table on the other side), the rules of table tennis, it states that the server receives the point and serves again. Ping pong serving rules state that this back and forth play continues until the server loses the ball or wins the game through points. If doubles are being played, the rules of ping pong state that each time a serve is switched, the player who did not serve last will serve. This table tennis rule only applies when the serve switches from one team to another, however. If a team is winning points, each new serve will be done by the same server. In table tennis rules, a serve is not allowed to touch the net, even if it goes over, but a hit back can do so. If that ball hits the net and bounces back, table tennis rules state it as a dead ball, but if it hits the net and goes over, it is up to the serving team to return it.

Table tennis rules and regulations also state that a server must call out the score before each serve. This regulation of table tennis helps everyone keep track of the score, which is particularly necessary in recreational games. Most of the time, the table tennis rule of at least a 2-point win is used. Table tennis doubles rules will have just a few variances from singles table tennis rules, just as amateur table tennis rules may not follow the professional players’ table tennis rules. However, by following the regulations and table tennis rules set forth by the pros, you will be playing a more intense and gratifying game.
